UK Keyboard with Turkish Characters

This is a keyboard layout for Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003 that can be used to replace the standard English (UK) keyboard layout. This layout retains all the existing characters but adds all the additional Turkish characters. By retaining all existing characters, there is no need to swap between keyboard layouts when swaping from English to Turkish. However, the additional characters are not as readily accessible as in a true Turkish keyboard layout. This is intended for users who mostly use English (UK) but need to easily access Turkish characters from time to time.

NOTE: This keyboard layout has been thoroughly tested but it is provided 'as is' and no responsibility will be accepted for loss or damage resulting from its installation or use.

To install the keyboard you will need to download UK-Tur.zip and extract this to a temporary location of your choice. Inside the folder 'UK-Tur' double click the installation file 'UK-Tur'. Be patient! Once you are told that the keyboard layout has been installed you are ready to set up Windows to use the new layout.

In 'Control Panel' open 'Regional and Language Options' (if you are using XP catagory view select 'Date, Time, Language and Regional Options' then click 'Add other languages'). On the 'Languages' tab click 'Details' then click 'Add...'. In the lower box 'Keyboard layout/IME' make sure that 'UK plus Turkish' is selected and click 'OK'. Under 'Default input language' select 'English (United Kingdom) - UK plus Turkish' click on 'Language Bar...' and untick all four boxes (you might need to untick them in the correct order!) in the dialogue then click 'OK'. Click 'OK' and 'OK' again. You should now have installed the extra Turkish characters without affecting your existing keyboard layout!

Using the extra characters can be done in one of two ways. Either 'AltGr' plus the appropriate key shown in the table below or 'Ctrl+Alt' plus the appropriate key. 'Shift' or 'CapsLock' creates the capital letters as usual but holding down 'Shift+Ctrl+Alt' takes a little practice and you may find 'Shift+AltGr' easier. Either way, you will soon get used to adding the extra characters into everyday typing!
